IOM reports over 172,000 displaced in Gaza within one week

The IOM has reported that over 172,000 Palestinians have been displaced in Gaza within a week due to Israeli attacks. The ongoing blockade has left 1.5 million people homeless and caused severe famine. Calls for immediate humanitarian access continue to grow.

AhlulBayt News Agency: The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has reported that more than 172,000 people have been displaced in the Gaza Strip within one week due to intense Israeli attacks and the ongoing blockade.

In a post on its X account, the UN-affiliated organization highlighted the continuation of large-scale displacement operations in Gaza. It stated that since the collapse of the ceasefire on March 18, 2025, approximately 610,000 people have fled violence or evacuation warnings.

The organization confirmed that over 172,000 people have been displaced in the past seven days, including 10,000 in the last 24 hours. It called for immediate humanitarian access to assist those affected.

On March 18, Israel reneged on the ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement that had been in effect since January 19, resuming its military campaign against Gaza despite Hamas’s adherence to all terms of the agreement.

On May 18, Israeli forces expanded their ground offensive with the aim of permanently occupying the Gaza Strip. Residents are being forced to flee through near-daily evacuation warnings.

Since October 7, 2023, Palestinians in Gaza have faced repeated displacement due to the ongoing war, which has received unwavering US support. The conflict has resulted in more than 175,000 Palestinians killed or injured—most of them children and women—while over 11,000 remain missing.

Israel has maintained a blockade on Gaza for 18 years. Currently, approximately 1.5 million Palestinians out of 2.4 million are homeless, as the war has destroyed their homes. The Strip is also suffering from severe famine due to Israel’s closure of border crossings, preventing humanitarian aid from entering.
